Here Paul has documented the trip. The web site is pretty much as it was the day he returned. See how he planned it, funded it, did it and lived it. There are hundreds of photos, a real-time blog and details of the boat, the route and the sponsors.

Please take a look around.

See how I went round with Live Tracking

Now that the trip is completed why not look at precisely where I went with Live Tracking, read my daily blog on the Daily Travel Blog and see how I made those Go/No Go decisions on the Weather Blog. There is all the Latest News and don't forget that Sally, my wife, is letting you know how she is coping while I am away in her I'm Staying at Home Blog.

Mission Statement

To raise funds for the RNLI whilst demonstrating & promoting "Best Practice" in sea safety

Stargate - Merry Fisher 625

In May 2008 Paul Churchley took his Jeanneau Merry Fisher 625 Round Britain on behalf of the RNLI "Train one, save many" campaign. He set out from Plymouth and went clockwise for the 1600+ mile journey.

"This will be very challenging" said Paul. "My boat is only 21ft and to make it even more of a challenge I am doing the whole trip solo".

His boat, named "Stargate", is a small Fishing Boat not really designed for such a journey. Paul explained:

"Although the boat has a small cooker, a bed and a toilet onboard and is quite capable of doing the journey, it is a lot smaller than most boats that make a journey like this and it won't be luxury by any account! It has a 115hp outboard engine that is petrol powered so I will need to refuel with petrol about every 100 miles or less and as almost all ports in the UK only have diesel I will need to source petrol from local garages.

"The current plan requires me to stop about 22 times for fuel and at each stop I will have 2 full days in port. On the first day I will be fundraising, hopefully with the assistance of the local RNLI fundraising volunteer team. On the second day in port I will be planning the next leg, ensuring the boat is prepared with fuel, any small repairs done and a bit of rest for me. I will be away at least 2 months and so I must have some rest and relaxation on the trip."

The effort will be on behalf of the RNLI. Paul explained why...

"The RNLI is funded solely from donations and the lifeboats are manned by volunteers. I spend much time at sea and I hope I will never need them but it is a huge comfort to know that they are there should the worst ever happen.

"I wanted to make my trip something much more than just a challenge and I can not think of a better cause than the RNLI. I will be collecting on my way round so if you see me please say hello and of course put something in the bucket."

This site has details of the trip, where Paul is going, the route and some info about each of the stopping points. Please take a look around. You will also be able to follow the journey in real time as Paul will be updating the blog as he goes round.
