Neyland - A Connection with Saltash
I live in Saltash and I didn’t know this but Neyland and Saltash have a thing in common… or should I say person - I. K. Brunel.
Saltash is on the Cornish side of the border from Devon to Cornwall and there is a railway bridge over the River Tamar designed and built by the great engineer. Here in Neyland there is a small park dedicated to Brunel detailing with exhibits the involvement of Brunel with Neyland.
For example, the first railway to be built in Wales was built here and the Great Eastern< a steam ship by Brunel, was brought here twice for repairs. There are many other interesting facts that involve Brunel here too. Take a look at the photos for a glimpse.
The park is called Brunel Quay and is just a couple of minutes walk from Neyland Yacht Haven.
