I’d hate to put the blight on it, but the weather is really starting to look set for a departure tomorrow. So perhaps this really is the last evening together for a while.
Sadly, my hopes of a fond farewell waving him off at the quayside are dashed, because I have to stay in for two deliveries of things for the house. I have planned all sorts of house improvements while Paul is away, and they start tomorrow! So I shall have to wave him goodbye from the house. So fingers crossed for the weather, and I’ll write again tomorrow.

This evening the forecasts look very favourable for a departure tomorrow. F3-4 reducing to a F2-3 later in the day. The sea state may be a little bumpy at first particularly with wind over tide for the first couple of hours but it looks like it will calm down to a slight-moderate after midday.
I will see how it looks when I get out there but I have a backup plan to travel more inland making a diversion to Fowey or Falmouth easier should it be sensible to cut the leg short. However, if it looks as though the forecast is panning out as planned then I will stick to my original route… direct Rame Head to The Lizard. If I have to spend much time off the plane then it could be quite a long trip so I am leaving at 9am. Even if I do 7kts all the way it will still only be 7-8 hours.
I will post a final post tomorrow before I set out from the house. Don’t forget to follow me on the Live Tracking page will you…

The block is still on with almost no movement of any kind from west to east and the lows are still rotating about the Bay of Biscay. However, they are more widely spaced now and so there are gaps in the weather that I intend to use. It is still not a done deal. I won’t be able to determine just how long the gap and so it will require caution but all the indicators are for the wind to drop to F3-4 and sea state to slight tomorrow, Tuesday. It might pick up again on Wednesday as the next low in the rotation comes by though.
So, the plan is for a Tuesday departure. With an easterly wind I really want to an ebb tide so avoiding wind over tide but high tide isn’t until about 11am and that would be a bit late to set out. I will accept a couple of hours of wind over tide at the start of the journey to give me a fair tide for the bulk of the trip and so a 9am departure sounds good.
I am not concerned if the conditions are not ideal for this leg. There are good bolt holes along the way and instead of taking the direct route from Rame Head to The Lizard I will stay more inland and make the decision to continue in stages based on actual conditions. I can always stop at Fowey or Falmouth if it doesn’t look good.
I will post another weather assessment tomorrow morning after the issue of the Inshore Forecast and make the decision to go or not then.
