I have now started on the passage planning and as you will see I have put up a new section into which I will put the passage plan for each leg. Check out where I am planning to go and how, fuel planning, Marina and harbour contacts.
I have now started on the passage planning and as you will see I have put up a new section into which I will put the passage plan for each leg. There is a basic chart showing the intended route, details of where I will stay, fueling arrangements and the waypoint by waypoint route details. Eventually there will be fundraising and media appearance information but that will come later.
Don’t forget that you can discuss these intended routes on the forum so if you disagree with my chosen route let me and evryone else know!

The web site is launched. This site will eventually become a reference site for all issues connected with going Round Britain by sea. See how it is created and get a site like this yourself.
This web site was officially launched last week and is slowly taking shape.
I am hoping that it will not only be the main source of information on this event but afterwards it will serve as a general information source for anyone wishing to find out about going round britain by sea. There is actually very little information on the web for someone interested in what planning is required, routing considerations, fuel, logistics etc. After I have returned this site will remain as a good reference for budding Round Britain mariners.
If there is anything that is currently missing from the site that you would like to see then please do email me at

and I will add it if at all possible. Please also email if there are problems with the site.
The web site uses Joomla! to create the basic Content Management System. If you would like to have a similar site then please get in touch as in the real world I am a computer consultant and might be able to assist.
The domain name roundbritain.org.uk was amazingly unregistered and so I simply registered it in my name and put it onto my web server. If you want a domain name for a boating event, your family email and web site, your company email and web site or anything else then please contact me at

and I will help if I can. Perhaps take a look at my business site at www.latchbrookcomputers.co.uk for more information on what I can offer.

My Round Britain for RNLI 2008 has been launched! I have started planning the trip, contacted potential sponsors, preparing the boat and passage plan and launching this site.
At last it is off and running! It has taken 2 years of thinking about doing it to finally boot me into action but now it is real… I am going round britain in my Merry Fisher 625!
It is funny but one minute it is an idea but as soon as the decision is made to go ahead so suddenly there is not enough time. I expect that 100% of my spare time will be taken up with preparation… I want to be fully and properly prepared when I actially set off and if I am not… I won’t go.
